Fair Trade or a Monopoly?

I understand that international trade is a needed thing. It just seems to me that the trade part isn't quite equal when it comes to outdoor gear. I have been shopping at Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops for years. I guess I never noticed the unbalanced amount of imported products compared to American made products. It is a shame that it takes the economy going in the toilet to realize that we aren't producing near the amount of gear as our over seas allies. It just seems that we as a country have become too greedy for our own good. The pride that was once the backbone of the "Land of Opportunity" has faded and turned to the get more for less effort attitude. I realize that the economy drop has had a tremendous negative effect on many people. I also look back at a time before the recession and remember that our greed had already been set in stone. I mentioned the "Land of Opportunity" above, but I think that some folks have a distorted view or thought process of this title. This was never meant to mean you can have everything for nothing. It was intended to tell the world that if you have the passion and drive for something that it may be possible. It doesn't and never did mean that it's a guarentee. It seems that we as outdoorsman should atleast try to come up with ideas and new products. I know that not all or even many at all will have a chance to be mass produced, but even if one out of one hundred were patented and produced it shows the pride we all share. It is very inexpensive to apply for a patent and all of us have improvement ideas on all the gear we buy. Everytime I buy fishing stuff I always have ideas for changes. I am personally going to do my very best to do my part to help our economy. If you have a passion for the outdoors whether it's fishing or hunting...etc then this isn't like work. I just hope that people realize that it just takes as many people as possible to make an honest effort to make a difference. It's time to try to help ourselves and stop waiting for politics to change things. I hope I'm not alone in this kind of thinking and I hope that the real "American Way" can shine again and we can get out of the poor me attitude. Generations before us put in the effort and it's our turn to leave things better than we found it.
